Abby, aka Monkey

Abby is our first pedigree dog, who came to us as a show potential bitch. When I picked her up from Sara Skinner of Baldev Beagles, she told me that if she didn’t turn out, I’d have to be willing to re-home her if I wanted to keep showing. Once we had Abby, it became very apparent that she wasn’t going anywhere. With each day that passed, she became more our princess than our show prospect.

So then we set out into the big wide world of showing. Me, a novice, and Abby, a tan and white beagle bitch. Both of us having no idea what to do…

Abby was the first of her litter to title at 13 months of age with multiple class in group and class in show awards. She was awarded her first Best in Group at the tender age of 9.5 months under hound specialist Mrs C Horne. One award that I will always remember, was being awarded Baby in Show at our first ever weekend in Sydney at the NSW Specialties. That bronze beagle is displayed very proudly in our home!

Abby has continued to do well throughout her show career, consistently being placed under breed/hound specialists, gaining her first Reserve CC at a specialty in 2013 under Mrs Christine Lewis of Fallowfield Beagles at the Beagle Club of Victoria Championship Show.

In 2013 we welcomed our first litter for Asalei Beagles, along with Abby’s first litter. We are very excited about the puppies she has produced and look forward to watching them mature. Abby has come back better than ever after her litter, so I look forward to seeing what she can continue to achieve in the show ring.

Showing and producing achievements aside, Abby will always be a very special girl to us (or me especially). The one that took us into the huge world of dog shows. Her gorgeous personality, loving nature and continuous wagging tail never ceases to brighten our days. We’ve traveled some great paths together and I look forward to exploring more with her in the future.
